Welcome to
Winter Park Sights!

Winter Park in Colorado has been a family friendly ski resort for over sixty years. Located about an hour-and-a-half away from Denver, Winter Park is one of the most accessible primary ski areas to the city and Denver International Airport. In the heart of the Arapahoe National Forest, Winter Park can be reached in a car or van by way of West Interstate-70 and exiting onto Highway 40. Many skiers choose to reach Winter Park on the Ski Train from Union Station in downtown Denver. The Ski Train arrives at Winter Park most weekends during the ski season. It arrives from Denver about nine-thirty each morning and returns to Denver at four-fifteen. Skiers are dropped off just a short distance from the ski base. The rail trip is about two hours each way. The three main ski mountains at Winter Park are Winter Park, Mary Jane, and Vasquez Ridge. The resort has 140 maintained ski runs on over 3,000 skiable acres. Winter Park is able to make manmade snow on nearly 300 acres. The resort receives over 350 inches of snow each winter season. The ski season usually runs from mid-November to April. Winter Park has twenty-five ski lifts in operation. With a 9,000-foot elevation at the base and a summit of 12,060 feet, Winter Park has over a 3,000-foot vertical drop. Winter Park began as a city owned and operated Denver Mountain Park. Winter Park offers snowboarding opportunities from beginner to expert. The resort operates one of the largest programs for disabled skiers. The National Sports Center for the Disabled (NSCD) is known internationally. It is a non-profit program. For non-skiers, the Winter Park Tour Department offers two-hour heated snowcat excursions. Guided snowshoe tours from the top of the Gemini lift are also available. During summer months, Winter Park has an Alpine Slide and miniature golf open. The Winter Park Resort is being developed by Intrawest. Intrawest is headquartered in Vancouver, British Columbia. Besides the Copper Mountain Ski Resort and Steamboat Springs in Colorado, Intrawest also owns Whistler-Blackcomb in British Columbia.
